INDIANA CHILD SAFE HAVENED IN NEBRASKA

Our society is in deep trouble in that it is okay to dump a child in another state. We are not supporting parents or children in our society. We are allowing parents to stop taking responsibility of their children. We as a society are teaching too much abstinence and not concentrating on the problem. We need to start teaching sexual education as well as sexual responsibility. We are damaging children further by abandoning them at any age. We must also start teaching parenting at an early age.

Here is the story and the link.

Eight-Year-Old Indiana Boy Abandoned In Nebraska
Dated: 11/07/2008 10:25:16

LINCOLN, NE - Officials say the latest child to be abandoned in Nebraska was from Indiana.

A spokeswoman with the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services says she believes a mother drove from Indiana and abandoned her 8-year-old son under Nebraska's safe-haven law. She says the little boy is from Wabash County, but would not release other details about the case.

The boy is the 28th child to be abandoned under the state's unique safe-haven law. Nebraska's law says anyone can leave a child at a hospital without fear of prosecution. The law uses the word "child" but does not include an age limit.

The state's governor has called a special session of the Legislature to fix the law. The special session doesn't begin until November 14th.
